place violence . It also details the statistics of work place violence , the future implications of violence and various definitions of work place violence

BACKGROUND

The subject which revolves around employee 's privacy is ever generating a big debate . It is complex in nature and involves legal procedures However , other opinions based on one 's experience and what he /she believes to be the best approach towards the subject . Violence which takes place at the work place poses serious health and safety issue . The most extreme form of violence is homicide . This is the fourth cause of injuries which are occupation related in the US . The `Bureau of Labor Statistics Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries , gives the following statistics . There are approximately 564 occupational homicides in 2005 in US , out of nearly 5702 work related injuries

Conditions that have got to do with the environment contribute to assaults in work place

T here have been known and strategies aimed at controlling the situation have already been implemented in various work places . Some recommendations and guidelines have been developed by OSHA to assist in reducing incidents which exposes workers to these hazards

Currently , there are no specific standards for violence at work place Section 5 (a (i ) - OSH Act is called `General Duty Clause . It re quires all employers to inform all his /her employees regarding employment and employment place which are not recognized work hazards that cause or are likely to inflict serious physical harm or death to his employees Section 5 (a ) demands that employers should adhere to safety and high health standards which are promulgated on this act

Around 24 states , Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico have already started practicing their standards and are enforcing their policies . In most parts , the states have taken the standards which are almost similar to those of federal OSHA : Some states however , have adopted standards which are different but can be applicable to the work place violence or the policies are enforced differently

The requirements of OSHA are designed by regulations , standards and statute . Our letters interpret and explain some of these requirements and their relevance to some of the circumstances . However , those requirements do not create additional obligations to the employer . The letter also constitutes the interpretation of OSHA of all the requirements which have already been discussed
