Job Outsourcing : arguments for ' and against

2004

Job outsourcing is very sharp question in literature nowadays , and different critics express different points of view on the advantages and disadvantages of this phenomenon . As Dennis Hodgins from Kansas Legislative Research Department marks , .we want to protect the state 's economy and jobs , but still buy the cheapest possible products . Due to the controversial nature of the problem , different economists regard the issue of job outsourcing from different angles For example , Stephen Koff in his article `Flip Side of Job-Outsourcing concentrates

his attention on the disadvantages of outsourcing , the so called flip side ' of this phenomena . He criticizes the opinion of economists who argue that insourcing has been hugely successful in keeping job losses to a minimum , and the number of American jobs lost to outsourcing was matched by an almost equal number of jobs , 3 .4 million attributed to foreign companies coming to the United States . According to Stephen Koff , it 's a false point of view because most of the foreign dollars bought existing American companies . In reality , the number of employees remains the same , only their managers change . On the contrary , President George Bush argues that if a thing or a service could be produced more cheaply abroad , then Americans were better off importing it than producing it at home . The authors of the article The Great Hollowing-Out Myth ' agree with the opinion of Stephen Koff They argue that .contrary to what John Edwards , John Kerry and George Bush seem to think , [job outsourcing] actually sustains American jobs . Michael Hussey in Job Outsourcing Good for America ' expresses the need of US to sue the advantages of job outsourcing . According to him , .just like Mexican workers who come to the United States to steal our jobs ' the cost savings afforded to American businesses HYPERLINK "http /www .mises .org /fullstory .asp ?control 1443 " make us stronger , freeing up American capital and talent to create opportunities that are ever more interesting for all of us
