Work and Recreation
Running Head : WORK AND RECREATION Work and Recreation Name College /University Professor Course Date Work and Recreation People exist to fulfill their purpose in life . They were gifted with the utmost knowledge to understand life and manage it . Philosophically speaking , the world and everything in it is God 's gift to man , and not the other way around . We all know that people do not exist to fulfill the purpose of the world , but the world is a place presented to man where he can live and

become something that achieves his purpose as well as life goals and objectives . We do not need to search for evidences to prove this , because man is the only specie in the world left with logic and rationality . Being able to think , man becomes the master of his life and his world . Setting aside the basics of philosophy and religion , we concentrate on the rationality of the issue . Man , in to survive in this world , needs to provide for his basic needs . He realizes this purpose by obtaining education , and afterwards getting a job in to gain profit to spend for his needs and wants . Working is not only a means of obtaining income , but for some it is a source of self-fulfillment and enjoyment
With this in mind , we present the argument that work does not give meaning to life , but man gives meaning to his work . The simplest explanation to support this idea is that work may be considered a tangible , lifeless material . It does not have the intellectual capacity to give meaning to man because it is an object or concept that man built in to satiate his need to survive in this world and accomplish success for self-fulfillment and enjoyment . Moreover , work becomes meaningful when man perceives it and acts on it because it is meaningful to him . For instance , a police man perceives his job to be important because not only does it become a source of income to sustain his basic needs , he is also able to serve other people and help them during difficult times . However , if another police man looks at his job as treacherous , tedious , or useless , the meaning of his work is lost Therefore , becoming passionate about work and realizing the importance of working is man 's way of giving meaning to it . If man fails to feel passionate about it and value it , then work loses its meaning
