Women in Music

br Women in Music My interest in Latin music began when my Latino friend introduced me to the music of this wonderful and sexy singer who went by only one name Thalia . He told me that she needed no surname because in her native land of Mexico , and in most Latino communities in the USA , she is the most popular Latin artist to have ever been part of the Latin explosion of this century . Intrigued as I was by her talent and beauty , I decided to write this about her in an effort

to further understand what makes her a very special enigma to most of her fans Thalia Sodi was born into a family of over achievers on August 6 . 1971 in Mexico City . As the youngest daughter in a brood composed of five girls , Yuya , as her father called her was the apple of everyone 's eye in the family . Her sisters are Laura , Ernestina , Gabriela , and Frederica , all of whom are successful in their own chosen fields that range from archeology to theatre arts . Growing up as a product of one of the most prominent families in Mexico , her father Ernesto was a noted scientist and doctor during his lifetime , had its perks for the little girl whose bright eyes always dreamed of seeing her name up in lights and having the adulation of millions of her countrymen . His death when she was five years old had a profound effect on the little girl . Laura , who goes by the screen name Laura Zapata is a well known theatre actress in their native homeland of Mexico . Her signing talent was first displayed at the age of 3 when she performed on the show Estudiantinas Estudian . Recognizing the talent of her youngest daughter , her mother Dona Yolanda enrolled the then 6 year old Thalia in ballet lessons at Academia Nellie Happee Topping her musical lessons off at the age of 8 with Piano lessons at Instituto Mexicano de Musica . As mentioned earlier , she hails from one of the most prominent families in Mexico and this led the public to believe that she could be nothing more than a pretty face and a family name that mattered and the child was getting an unfair advantage over the more deserving youths of the nation because of it . Thalia was conscious of these beliefs from the very start of her young career and knew that she would have to win over the public if she was to succeed in such a cut throat world .2

Thalia was only 10 years old when she was recruited by Paco Ayala...
