There are two main players in the space . These are the manufactures and the vendors who will provide the wireless services to the Umass Boston The first player is Tower stream which will be the main service provider for the project . The other player will be Net Gear who will provide the wireless range extender

Tower stream is s service providers which has a wide experience in the market . Having operated since 2001 , the company must have

gained the necessary skills in the implementation of such projects . It has provided service in major metropolitan areas like Chicago , New York , Boston , Los Angles and many others and therefore it is a reputable company that can be trusted with the implementation of such a large project . The selection of this company is also based on the cost consideration . Ti offers a T-1 line with 10 Mbps through speed running on 802 .11 standards at a fair process of 1299 per month with a one time connection of 600 This is economical for Umass Boston . The company also comes with other competitive service level agreements which guarantee a 99 .9 network availability and a compensation for the downtime . Another advantage with the company is that it offers a high level of security for the network . However one disadvantage with the company is that it is relatively small to offer the kind of attention that is needed in the implementation of the project in setting and running the Umass network

Net Gear , who is the other major player in the project , is a leading manufacturer of 54Mbps wall plugged wireless range extenders . This company will play an important role in providing wireless range extender which would improve service provision and reduce dead and shadow zone The advantage with this company is that it will provide the wireless extender range at a relatively cost effective price for the university The company will provide WGX102 at 86 .99 per unit which will be connected to the wireless routes around the campus and XE102US at 59 .99 which is connected to 110V power outlet and re-broadcasts the wireless signal

Upside and down side of various technologies

The local area network (LAN ) is one of the main technologies which will be used in the implementation of the projects . LAN will help the various users around the campus to access the wireless services from the comfort of where they are . However one of the greatest threats that are facing the implementation of LAN is security issues . There is uncertainty about the security of data and will be uploaded and downloaded from the wireless services . However the university has put in place a very strong security system from the current system which may guarantee security for the wireless services
