From time immemorial , people are harnessing the wind power . Wind power has been used for propelling down the boats both in inland waters and as well as

in oceans and wind energy was used to grind gain and to pump water . Persia [Iran] is said to have used windmills in the 7th century itself . The Dutch can be called as forefathers of the wind energy as it is they who used windmills to drain swaps and lakes even as early as in the 19th century .Further , Denmark is using wind turbines to produce electricity as early as 1890 's . Initially , windmills are used to pump water for ranches and farms , making , wood sawing , extracting oil from oil seeds and multi-purpose of grinding usages and it has been extended to generate electricity for industry and homes purposes Denmark pioneered the technology of producing electricity through wind turbines in 1890 itself . The first invention in this regard was made by Poul la Cour who had constructed the world 's earliest power generating wind turbine in 1891 . Though Poul project was successful but the problem faced at that time was how to store the electricity produced from wind Due to this , Poul utilized the electricity harnessed from his turbines for electrolysis so as to manufacture hydrogen for the gas lighting in his school and for other domestic purposes . Wind turbines alter the motion , or kinetic energy , of wind into mechanical energy , which can be utilized directly to grind corn or to run a generator that produces electricity . However , wind energy has not been harnessed in a substantial way as industrialization era witnessed harnessing other manufacturing process for generating electricity

As of today , wind energy is being used in a largest capacity in Germany and in a substantial way in countries like U .S , India , Denmark and Spain . As of today , wind energy is developing in a fast space due to technological advancement . It is to be observed wind energy does not harm the environment and does not generate any greenhouse gases or atmospheric emission . Wind energy is termed as renewable energy as it is replenishable and depends upon the sun as it is a form of solar energy Hence , as long as sun is there , wind energy can be harnessed without any limit

2 , ANALYSIS

Growth of Wind power has been kindled swiftly throughout the last five years , both in Europe and worldwide . In 1998 alone , the installed wind power capacity worldwide amounted just more than 10 ,000 M and it has now attained about 40 ,000 MW . This number is anticipated to go up to 150 ,000 MW by 2012 (WWF factsheet , 2004
