Hamlet as Insane

It is a classic thought to believe that Hamlet was insane , and that insanity led him to perform in the manner suitable for a young man half out of his mind . He believes his father 's ghost tells him his own uncle deceitfully planned to get the throne by killing him with poison and then taking advantage of the death , claims the throne for his own . In the course of discovering Hamlet 's story , the reader may also be

so perceptive as to notice Hamlet 's changing moods , and actions and the climax of the tragedy is death , yet in this death is where the reader finally meets the true Hamlet . The thesis statement that will be made in the following pages refers to the fact that Hamlet , as a protagonist did not know himself , and in this farce of identity commits acts of treason , of disloyalty and the denouement , the blood bath at the end of Shakespeare play , proves to be a lessening of personal identity for Hamlet 's own identity is lost to the rising delusions of his father 's ghost , and the plot thickening of betrayal which Hamlet himself plays a hand and is dealt a hand . Hamlet is stuck performing gestures and acts according to other people 's wishes and in the entirety of the play does not commit to his own actions nor does he speak his own opinion but does go blindly about the castle with the ghost of his father haunting his conscience and the will of that father makes of Hamlet a crust of a man As Shakespeare writes , My fate cries out / And makes each petty artere in this body / As hardy as the Nemean lion 's nerve / Still am I called Unhand me , gentlemen / By heaven , I 'll make a ghost of him that lets me / I say , away ! His actions are not controlled by his own will but instead are parlayed into the compartments of the hierarchy of gods , of wishes and destiny : A man knows himself through the choice and follow through of his own actions Hamlet does choose revenge but in this he is guided and pushed by his father 's ghost . As Horatio contends , after Hamlet 's departure to bear witness to his father 's ghosts , He waxes desperate with imagination (Act One , Scene Four , line 87 . In this simple phrase is found the rudimentary beginnings of Hamlet 's downfall . In Hamlet 's imagination there is a world of difference between the reality of the play and what the reader is led...
