The Quakers in America Quaker ' was a name given to a group of people who were causing religious problems for the crown . Their leader , William Penn , and the people that followed him left England when they were given land in America . They settled in a state called Pennsylvania , though it is known as the Keystone State ' unofficially , it is called the Quaker State as Penn and company practically develpoped the land making it the friendliest ' colony , and later state .
