Bullying will only apply when there is an asymmetric power relationship which means that the target may actually be

physically or mentally weaker than the perpetrator . This is when a reasonable person engages in an unreasonable behavior to victimize , humiliate , undermine or overrule , isolate and exclude the target or threaten colleague or client . This usually carries a code of silence that plays into the bully 's strategy

Bullying and violence are major potential hazards in all workplaces occurring at any time in any condition . Organization finds it harmful and distractive to business operations because it promotes high levels of absenteeism and staff turnover (ACT 2004 ,

. 4 ) while increasing costs in counseling , mediation and compensation claims including recruitment and training of new staff . It reflects poor public image as a difficult and unhealthy work environment which even has the capacity to break teams and work relationships . Bullies continually define and redefine situations in to grab control on the target which often is not aware being bullied resulting to a break of self confidence . The target normally thinks of being constantly getting it wrong

One good example is an anonymous comment at a website that goes like I have encountered a boss that bullies and uses fear tactics to get results . It can become an abusive cycle and you start to rationalize the behavior and make excuses for it . It 's sad when you somehow accept being yelled at constantly , told that you will lose your job if you don 't do better . See the signs and get out early ' And here 's another one from the same website of different setting ' I can 't believe what I 'm reading . Well actually my daughter has just started her first job . She is an attractive articulated girl who works her ass off only to be bullied and intimidated by her boss ( a husband and wife tag team .
