The reduction of African responses to the categories of resistor and collaborator ' is inappropriate because it is often the case that these categories often map or evolve into being progressive ' and traditional . More often , there are problems with such categories In the case of resistors , they have no options at all . In Uganda for example , once the British in effect entered into an alliance with the Ganda ( who also in effect became collaborators , the other tribes and kingdoms were automatically on the other side who were not given the deal in the

alliance unlike the collaborators . However , when the Gandas later became the resistors when the Uganda Protectorate Government attempted to reduce and eliminate autonomy and went to court and won . In effect they have become resistors by their own

Moreover , these categories are simply judgmental and very simplistic in a sense that there is no longer room for alternative policies and approaches . When the Africans tried to initiate reforms , there lies the problem of seeing the distinction of who is the resistor and the collaborator and whether such person who works within the system to change it and even to undermine it may in fact accomplish more or as much as the overt resistor

Further , with regard to religious leaders , many of these leaders fell in love with the separatists and the movement , that in the process ended up making so many separatists as well , which unfortunately were not something they wanted . While those who were not separatists were grouped and categorized as being Uncle Toms or cowards many of whom in fact were not
