Why I want to be a nurse
Why I want to be a nurse I think that many of us have heard the saying to the effect , Find whatever it is you love doing and then get someone to pay you for doing it ' This would be considered for many to be one way of measuring one 's ultimate career path . Some people may associate this with a sport they enjoy or even a creative talent that they possess . I can honestly say that I can relate to this saying when it comes to my career choice of nursing p

When I was younger , I naturally took on the caretaker role . If someone injured themselves , I would find the bandage , the gauze pads the wound wipes or the antibiotic ointment . If someone was ill , I would be the one to bring the thermometer and read our family 's medical dictionary to determine to my best childhood ability , the correct diagnosis . I received no compensation for it , just the fulfillment of feeling I was providing a needed medical service to another person who needed care , yet even then , I was told that I conducted myself like a real nurse
In taking various career assessments throughout the years , nursing has always been an occupation included in the areas that I always rated strongest in . I was introduced to the excellent book , Do What You Are which is loosely based on the Myers-Briggs Personality Test . This book was among the many assessments which concluded that the field of nursing was an area of strength for me which revealed itself after I completed the four personality assessments included in the front of this career path book
Although I wouldn 't expect my occupation to be the only thing in my life to create fulfillment in my life , however , neither can I say that I don 't see nursing as being part of what I am choosing to create some of the fulfillment and meaning to my life . I know many people cannot say that their livelihood creates some of the meaning to their lives , but having already had some experience in this field , I am comfortable with saying this
I foresee the future of nursing to include new technologies and new pharmaceuticals in the medical field in general and additionally in regards to medical research . With the baby boomer population now retiring , I can see a new emphasis being directed with newer technologies requiring nurses to learn these ever increasing technologies along with learning to read output and interpret this mass of newer technological information . Looking at the technologies that have come on to the medical scene in the recent past few years , I see additional technologies growing exponentially
I do see the length of time spent in hospitals to continue to shorten while I see nursing and the health care field in general as making the nursing field more attractive to minorities and many students who may not have in the past been motivated into the field of nursing
