The Lack of Moral Judgment in the Works of Kate Chopin Kate Chopin was a late 19th century female author who received little to no praise for her that have now become classics that are taught at literary classes all over the world . In her time , her works had been criticized for the moral issues that she presents in her stories without a final "lesson " as it were , that justified what immoral actions or thoughts her characters might have had in the course of the stories . In later years , after her death , Chopin

's work saw much popularity as new readers with new eyes saw many of her short stories as feminist literature as they dealt with the sufferings and unflinching strengths of some women , however questionable to general society their actions might seem . However , in an interview with her grandson , he stated that she had said that she prescribed to neither feminist nor suffragist movements . So why , then , the seeming lack of moralizing in her work ? An analysis of some of Chopin 's short stories , including the famous "The Story of An Hour " as well as some instances of her life shows that the works heavily reflected the sufferings and sympathies that Chopin had in her own life , and thus her works reflect more of an entertaining realism than informative moral lessons
