The German reformation which is commonly known as the protestant reformation has been regarded as a reform movement by Christian society in the continent of Europea .This Christian reformation started as early as the year of 1517 with the initiation of Martin Luther . In the 16th century a religious revolution started in German which has been recorded as one of the greatest religious reformations in the world history . This reformation occurred in the Roman Catholic Church which was the

only church in Western Europe during the 16th century . This reformation started in the year of 1517 and ended in the year of 1648 after the signing of the peace accord of Westphalia . This movement was aimed at reforming the Catholic Church in general . This tries to bring out the causes of the reformation , its course and its effect in general with regard to the religious history in the world today

The causes of the German reformation can be grouped as social and economic causes .Most of the Western Catholics were highly dissatisfied with the way the affairs were being conducted by the clergies and the pope who had a lot of powers in general . Many Christians came to believe that most of the practices were just false doctrines which were meant to oppress the Christian community but at the same time benefit the church authorities .
