In fact , it is a voyage of the self into the realms of imagination in an attempt to find its true nature . The poet expresses himself joyfully with the `original energy of nature which is unchecked and in exhaustive . The opening lines prepare the readers for an unprecedented flight of imagination

Whitman directly expresses the universality of the self and indirectly suggests the equality of all .
