Because of this , Alsace-Lorraine had to be returned and control of the coal mines of Saar region had to be passed on to France for a taken from the hands of the Germans , and Rhine River was demilitarized of German troops , which was reduced to as little as 100 ,000 volunteer men with no heavy artillery , tanks , or war plane ' Last but not the least , German lost its overseas territories in Africa , Asia , and the Pacific Ocean over to France , Britain , and Japan while Germany 's Brest-Litovsk Treaty with Russia was revoked .
