The final class was composed of the domestic slaves . The individuals in this class were relatively few as compared with the rest of the classes and represented the first and earliest attempts of the post classical society to adopt slavery as an economic practice

While it can be argued that many benefits were realized from the Italian renaissance , many negative things arouse from it such the class divisions that proved to be more destructive and the decline in the legal and social status of women . One of these less stellar practices

was the reintroduction of slavery as a result in the growth of the Italian cities and consequently the demand for human labor . The cities presented the largest consumers of slaves and as growth occurred , the demand for slaves increased more and more . It is important however to note that the slave trade practiced was not yet based on race and most of the slaves were secured from Islamic countries , Africa , Balkans and Spain among other places (Martines , 2006 ,

In this regard , most of the slave acquired were used for domestic purposes and the acquirement of a slave meant the owner , usually the wealthy , had the full rights inclusive of the right to enjoy and sell the slave if he so wished . However , any children born by these slaves were born free of slavery with the slave owner , if the father of the child , raising him or her in a legitimate manner . Still , the growth of sugar cane plantations in some of the areas resulted in the growth of a slavery system in which the slaves started to be traded for economic purposes
