Public universities , on the other hand , have maintained their standards and many have excelled at par with the private universities However , the public sector schools and universities both share a common phenomenon : shootings . These shootings prove detrimental to the physical and psychological development of the children . Additionally , they cast a shadow

on the mental development of a child . The history of school shootings in the United States can be traced back to the 1960s when race relations reached a turning point . Extremist organizations disliked the desegregation of schools and the brainwashed some citizens to an extent that led to fatal shootings . The racial factor , however , still plays some role in the motivations of the killers (Newman , Fox , Roth , Mehta Harding , pp . 2-50
Aside from the huge outcry these killings create on the national level they have the following most outstanding impacts
Increased parental concerns over the security of their children
Questions about the mental condition of the youth
Debate on the gun control policies
