Running head : Western Political Thought Western Political Thought Name :Course :College :Tutor :Date Hobbes and Locke were both natural theorists and social contract theorists . However this theorists held very different views when it came to the idea of man 's willingness to leave the state of nature and enter into a social contract . For example according to Locke man is naturally a social animal but according to Hobbes man is not a natural social animal because the society cannot exist except through the power of state . In the state nature Locke

says that most men honored their obligations and kept their promises and although insecure it was pleasant peaceful and good . Hobbes on the other hand believes that no single society which can be worst of all danger of the violation death and continual fear . Locke believes that we always give our rights to ourselves thus exacting retribution for crimes in return for fair justice that is backed by a very overwhelming force . Locke believes that through the social contract we retain our lives , gain the right to justice and just protection of our property . Hobbes on the other hand believes that if one shut up and do we are told then has a right not to be killed and the opposite is true . This is because sovereignty doesn 't involve the violation of the contract . Locke believes that men naturally have their respective rights but Hobbes holds the idea that one has to concede his or her rights...
