Describe the problems facing the Roman emperors after Augustus , and whether and how they addressed these problems

The Roman Empire between the rule of Augustus and Nero is characterized by military tyranny . After the death of Augustus , Tiberius , his stepson became the Priceps . Tiberius is a dark and vengeful character who lacks charm and leadership skills , and over the years , his rule eventually became tyrannical and autocratic . This shattered the illusion that the Empire is rising from its ashes and set the tone for the future of succeeding emperors

Many historians

consider Caligula , his successor , insane , and within a few years , he was assassinated by the Praetorian Guard . During Nero 's rule , the Empire is beset with riots and rebellions . There was constant unrest within the Senate and Rome 's provinces . Nero was not interested in running the army or the administration and unable to manage these problems

After Nero , Vespasian introduced a more peaceful time and thorough successful dealings , freed Rome from financial burdens brought about by Nero 's excesses . He was also pivotal in preventing civil wars and rebellions by changing military placements and strengthening frontiers Attacks from Germanic Tribes continued to plague the Empire , and this became one of the greatest difficulties for succeeding rulers

The next rulers , Titus and Domitian played a huge part in restoring Rome 's financial power . The century after their rule was marked by peace and prosperity under the Five Good Emperors . However , the Germanian Tribes have migrated to the areas in the Danubian and Rhine bs , and incursions across these bs have increased . This took a toll on the Empire 's coffers and a lasting peace was not secured . The 3rd century was characterized by political unrest and no ruler was able to control the Barbarian invasion . Cities were sacked , Barbarians moved within the city walls , and Rome became geographically divided . This signaled the fall of the Roman Empire...
