Since the seventh century after the death of Prophet Muhammad , Islam has spread very fast . In fact , within three centuries , Islam spread in the Middle East and North Africa , which is a very short duration of time . By this time , Islam was being viewed as the third greatest religion after Christianity and Judaism . It therefore becomes very important to assess the reason which led to the rise and success of Islam during this period

One of the reasons

why Islam spread rapidly during the seventh century was that unlike some of the religions at the time , Islam was considered very tolerant toward other religions and people . The Quoran was against forcing people to join Islam , since they would not have genuine faith in the religion . However , this view is opposed by some scholars , who in fact blame military conquest for the rapid spread . They explain that Prophet Muhammad 's forceful personality , together with salvation promise to people who died spreading Islam , was a major contributor to the rapid spread of the religion

Another reason is the harmony between the various components of the religion . There is harmony between various parts of the religion , such that they support and complement each other . The postulate and teachings are not in conflict with each other .
