Communication is one of the most important disciplines that look into the behavior of people as they relate with one another . As a discipline the existence of Communication or Human Relations can be traced back to 1947 when the Tavistock Institute and the Research Center for Group Dynamic together founded the discipline with a belief that social scientists should come together and contributed their knowledge in each discipline in to understand the complexity and the character of

human problems in their every day relations (Thomson , 2007 ) Human relation is founded on the principles that there is no any one single discipline that can give solution to the problem that people face in their daily relations and therefore there is need to put in place the contribution by different disciplines in to come up with one discipline which puts together contribution from different disciplines Human relations are a discipline which is designed to produce personnel with career in human services . Foundations of human relations

The key foundation of communication in human relations is the need to understand how well people can relate with one another in the work place and in their daily life . It is designed to study human behavior in groups and particularly in the workplace . The foundation for the discipline can be traced to the 1920s Hawthorne studies which were aimed at examining the way social relations , motivation , and the general satisfaction of the employees on the productivity of an organization

Laying the foundation for the discipline , the Hawthorne studies viewed employee as dynamic part of the organization that can be influenced negatively or positively . It looks into worker in terms of their psychology and tries to fit this with the demands of the company instead of taking workers as interchangeable parts . Bruce et al , 2006

Theories which support human relations assert that there is a lot of primacy that is given to organization which views them as human cooperative systems and not as mechanical contraception . There are three key areas which are stressed in human relations (Hersey and Blanchad , 1977

First is the natural groups in the sense that social aspects are important than organization structures

Second is upward communication in which organization communication is seen as two way , from workers to the executives and vice versa

The third factor is cohesive and good leadership in the organization which is needed in to communicate the goals and make effective decision for the organization

These are important factors which have been considered as the key pillars in human relations . The key assumption of this discipline is that human are not mechanical parts in an organization . They have to be treated with a human touch to influence them and to increase their productivity . However these assumptions are very dynamic and they keep changing with the continued generation...
