It has many active and inactive volcanoes and a tropical climate . The landscape is covered with mountains and vast forest regions , but being a third world country it highly contributes to the escalation and worsening crisis of air and water pollution . Over-population , lack of environmental awareness , and inadequacy of proper waste management are

just a few factors of pollution in general
Dynamite fishing , mining , chemicals used in agricultural products are just a few causes of water pollution . Not to mention our garbage problem which up to now is still unmanageable . This leads to water related maladies like diarrhea , amoebiasis , cholera to name a few
Smoking , smoke belching vehicles , burning of fuels and garbage , emission from factories , the use of kaingin or burning of trees practiced by illegal loggers causes air pollution . This includes perilous compounds such as nitrogen oxides , carbon monoxide , carbon dioxide etc , which also leads to asthma , lung cancer , bronchitis and skin diseases
The Philippines ' Clean Air Program (CAP ) has been established to find alternative solutions to the worsening problem of air pollution in the Philippines . Its main goal is to promote social awareness for the protection of mankind and preservation of the environment to create a balance and harmonious relationship with nature . Desperate measures are being undertaken to help alleviate the worsening problem of air and water pollution . The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR ) is closely monitoring issuance of permit to loggers and currently implementing selective logging . Television , a powerful medium to disseminate information regarding the significance in protecting and caring for our environment is helping the (CAP ) movement through fund-raising projects , proceeds of which will be used for the implementation of their own environmental programs . Schools are teaching students the harmful effects of pollution , their preventive measures and control . Local government units are implementing proper waste disposal Segregating and recycling of garbage to minimize if not eradicate burning of waste materials and at the same time become self-sufficient . Civic groups and non-government organizations are also doing their part by planting of trees and different fruit bearing plants
Air and water pollution impedes economic growth and development . For instance , chemicals emitted from factories and other sources of water pollution are accumulated in the sea and other bodies of water . Thus slowly killing fishes and other living things which is a source of livelihood to many people especially those whose income is solely dependent on fishing and other aquatic life
Likewise , polluted air is hazardous to people 's health . Therefore , it lessens tourist from visiting our country because of these predicament
In effect , a huge portion of government funds is allocated in the rehabilitation of our natural resources instead of spending it on other beneficial projects such as education , building infrastructure , and other related government programs which is instrumental in...
