written : psychology and psychological motivations took center stage , as comics tried to live in the deconstructed spotlight that Moore placed them in . These deconstructing tropes in Watchmen include the typically garish costumes of the heroes , the notion of fighting for the greater good , and the notion of vigilante justice itself
It is difficult to ponder the archetypal hero without imagining the outlandish costumes : bright colors , needless capes , and belt buckles that could make any trucker envious . Even as Watchmen employed these typically garish costumes for its characters , they were used as deconstructions of the genre : Nite Owl and Silk Spectre address the fetishistic quality of their superhero costumes rather directly , as Nite Owl is portrayed as impotent until he dons his costume .
