Disposing off green wastes in landfill must be carried out with proper management otherwise it could create several health hazards
First of all the selection of landfill area must not be in a place where it would cause problem for the excessive population . The waste must be dumped into landfill sites with appropriate guidelines and procedure for safe disposal . In addition , the waste disposal must be managed and controlled according to the ever changing environmental conditions Several different problems that arise from green waste in landfills are the production of methane , contamination of ground water with leachate incomplete decomposition and separation of wastes materials
The proper method must be followed with enough size reduction , screening and use of proper chemicals for degradation . Size reduction is done with grinding , processing and shredding to small fine uniform particles to spread it equally on the ground . Grinding helps bacteria to act on wide surface area and enhances the degradation process . Screening involves separating wastes materials and disposing them off in different sections . Improper disposal can lead to several health problems due to air and water pollution . These include skin and eye diseases . Further air pollutants can cause respiratory problems . These can be cancerous agents initiating any malignant cancer in humans . If piles of wastes are left uncovered then it can become in habitat of rats , flies and mosquitoes . The diseases like malaria , typhoid , cholera , dysentery plague and yellow fever can spread via these agents . Serious ground water pollution and air pollution are very risky for health and ultimately cause additional problems once disease is spread . Additional cost is incurred on curing and treatment of such diseases
