Abstract

Female circumcision is a serious problem around the world . In Africa , it is a persistent traditional practice that has serious negative impact on women . Many African women came out to voice their opposition towards the practice of female circumcision and one of these women is Waris Dirie Dirie was a model and her rise to the top of the modeling industry allowed her to interact with other professionals and

personalities who would be instrumental in helping her in fighting female circumcision practices . Dirie would become UN ambassador and founder of many foundations that assist victims of female circumcision and pressure the governments to stop this practice . Dirie would also become a writer who will published several books about her life and how female circumcision are strongly connected to her life as a young child and later as an adult fighting this advocacy for women

I . Introduction

There are many practices by groups of individuals which will remain weird , alien and barbaric to other groups of people . No practice generates more interest as well as more intensity than those which results to pain and suffering and trauma , those which resulting to torn flesh , physical and emotional wounds , and blood on the hands of those who perpetrated it and continue to do so .
