War film is referred to a genre of films that deal with the of naval , land and air warfare . The protagonists are usually soldiers stationed or imprisoned in far off lands . The films focus on military training , covert operations or even civilian life during the war . The stories may be based on history , fiction or autobiographies of popular war heroes . O the other hand , the anti war films show the suffering and pain associated with wars complemented with a political or ideological point of view . A majority of later films concentrated on the horrors and pointlessness of warfare . Films such as The Big Parade ' and What Price Glory ' came in the silent film era of the 20s .
