Introduction

The formation of WTO in 1995 had brought multi-facet changes to the institutional and legal framework for the conduct of the international trade . 1986-94 Uruguay Round Negotiations which were approved at the Marrakesh ministerial meeting in April 1994 forms the basis for the majority of the WTO agreements . There are about 60 agreements and decided cases which amount to more than 600 pages . Recent additions to WTO legal frame work are the Information Technology Agreement , Services and accession protocols

This essay deals with WTO legal system and its chief mechanism to deal with various issues arising between member states . WTO has widened the rules of international trade as compared to the GATT many times and opened a separate new court system with the chances of appeal

Bangladesh is the member of WTO since its inception . This essay researches into restructuring of legal framework which Bangladesh should have to introduce in tune with the WTO 's legal framework . It also analyses legal groundwork that Bangladesh has to introduce into its institutional frame -work in tune with changing scenarios of WTO 's legal frame work

If Bangladesh really wants to increase its export of garments and agricultural products and general services to advanced markets like U .S E .U and Japan , it has to strengthen its legal culture and institutions at home . Further , like India , Bangladesh should have a strong democratic set up so that it can demonstrate that its policies and economic reforms are irreversible . This will boost the confidence of investors and Bangladesh can benefit from inflow of investments and technology transfer

For instance , Bangladesh , as an LDC Member initiated during January 2004 first dispute concerning certain anti-dumping measures introduced by India on imports of lead acid batteries from Bangladesh .
