White Privilege ' where Sleeter emphasized that there is a need to go beyond the issue of diversity and would have to take on racial discrimination through multiculturalism The author started with an example from history , which is that of people of European descent who have been privileged to a certain extent

but are disenfranchised because of poverty . There is a call to go beyond knowing the diverse cultures and expect everyone to understand what goes on at the other side of the fence . It should rather be that the efforts are directed towards easing the problem of racial discrimination
Sleeter also claims that white privilege ' still exists today despite the different legal and moral implications of having one race be treated as superior compared to the rest . Normally , people of white color do not experience receiving comments with regard to their achievements as assets of their race as it is already assumed that white people are of superior stance . On the other hand , people of different color are being recognized and are being placed above the rest with such comments as if it is not natural within their race to become the same
Likewise , Sleeter also shared how they found out that racial discrimination still exists today with a class experiment that they conducted within different institutions . The students are asked to come in pairs , one is white and one is of a different color , and record the different treatments they received with the people they interacted with People of white color were surprised with the differences that they have over the people of other color
She then proceeded with the discussion of racial discrimination in the academe . This is collective in nature and tends to be higher in focus than the racial discrimination within the individual level . It is necessary that multiculturalism should address this , too aside from the racial discrimination felt from the individual level Likewise , it is necessary that access to the resources are secured
Primarily , the advice given for the teachers who wanted to do more against racial discrimination is that they should make themselves participative of the groups or networks that share the same goal
The article has provided good insights on multiculturalism and how this could be used to target racial discrimination ,which is something that goes beyond diversity . The author was able to push through with the ideas presented by Sleeter but the flow was not arranged in such a way that the ideas are connected with one another from beginning...
