WATCH 10 MINUTES OF THE `OPINION SHOWS` THAT NOW DOMINATE TV NEWS ( KEITH OLBERMAN, BILL O REILLY, HANNITY AND COLMES, CHRIS MATTHEWS, ETC.) WHY IS THE TALKING HOST WRONG? GIVE EXAMPLES OF HOW THE MEDIA USED OPINION, IMPLICATION AND STRONG STATEMENTS INST
Use of Opinion in Media Being a hard-hitting talk show host of an equally dominating American opinion show requires not only an aggressive attack on anyone to show who is in control the host must have at least deep knowledge , if not mastery , of the being discussed . This is for the reason that one 's credibility is at stake in matters where a media practitioner is expected to know what he or she is saying , and not only providing the public with an opinionated but baseless program Chris Matthews , the main man

of MSNBC 's Hardball with Chris Matthews ' is a definite example of an apparently overconfident talk show host who portrays himself as if he knows everything by being hard on his guest 's alleged ignorance of the United States ' history . Yet , he himself is unpleasant to watch , because he also committed to his own version of blunder . The pathetic blooper happened on the May 15th afternoon segment of the show which featured Matthews lambasting the radio talk show host Kevin James
The Hardball ' bungle showed Matthews ripping James for the latter 's reported ignorance or lack of knowledge on the Neville Chamberlain history . However , after all the heated exchange of words , with Matthews shouting at James , the Hardball ' man miserably went astray when he claimed that the October 2000 USS Cole attack occurred during the administration of President Bush . Matthews was of course because the attack happened during the Clinton presidency . In the same segment , it was sickening to watch that behind Matthews ' arrogant ridicule of James was actually a person with unsure history background especially when he said that Wasn 't the USS Cole under Bush ? I mean , I don`t know what we`re talking about here , the first Bush ' with 4 minutes and 50 seconds into the clip
The above segment is a concrete example of how media 's use of opinion as well as strong and offensive statements against the guest of the show , can turn even the second most powerful and knowledgeable television commentator and political analyst in the U .S . to be unprofessional . Matthews should have not resorted to attacking his guest by repeatedly shouting What did he do ' and making unnecessary comments such as This is pathetic ' during a televised show . The fact that Matthews earned his position as an influential opinion show host does not provide him the right to attack James if he himself would turn out to be a non-sense host who is ignorant when it comes to the American presidents
