Because little is known about the causes of the disease , two thirds of patients with the disease recover without any treatment in days . And for those who do not recover , there is no available consistent curative treatment The cause of this sudden hearing loss can be identified in only 10-15 percent of cases which includes viral , bacterial , neurological metabolic and immunologic in origin . The objective of the experiment is to gather evidence regarding the restorative and the protective role of antioxidants in the inner ear and to determine the most effective antioxidant available and its optimal dose for supplemental use Researchers from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa Israel gathered 66 patients with sudden hearing loss . Subjects were randomly divided into two groups . Both the control group and the experimental group received bed rest and steroids .
