Domestic violence occurs when a person threatens or uses violence and intimidates another person to gain power and control ( Domestic Violence Fact Sheet . There are different forms of domestic violence including psychological , physical , emotional , and financial ( The Survivor 's Handbook . Domestic violence happens not only to women but also to men . The situation is also not limited to normal couples because it is also experienced in lesbian relationships

The most interesting fact about domestic violence is how people do not admit that they are involved in this kind

of relationship and rarely get help . People , especially women , should remember that when they see the first sign of an abusive partner , they should immediately ask for help If not , things would get worse , the partner would come to believe that he or she is in control , and help might be too late . While it is true that getting out of an abusive relationship can be difficult , seeking help is the first step to recovery

When in an abusive relationship , women tend to feel alone and that no one understands them . In contrast , women comprise 85 percent of domestic violence victims (qtd . in Domestic Violence Fact Sheet There are millions of women being abused everyday and it is fortunate that there are also a lot of organizations and shelters to help them get through the trauma . This includes Arizona Coalition Against Domestic Violence , Eve 's Place , and White Mountain Safe House

Men and women , equally , do not deserve to be abused . Women , especially do not have the physical , and sometimes mental , power to fight their abusers . They should not put up with abusers and should get help as soon as possible
