Views of Nature
Man and Mother Nature Man 's relationship with nature is very complicated . Throughout history , man has been trying to control his surroundings to provide him comfort - altering nature to suit his needs . However , nature is not man 's follower . Two poems will show us that nature is God 's connection to man and this makes it above us and beyond our control Wordsworth 's Tintern Abbey ' and Tennyson 's In Memoriam : Lyric 56 are both about nature . Both poems acknowledge the superiority of nature over man and that God somehow relates to

us through our surroundings However , their views are different when it comes to the role of nature in our lives
For Wordsworth , nature brings peace to man 's life . And I have felt A presence that disturbs me with the joy (93-94 ) proves how much the poet feels God 's love through the surroundings of Tintern Abbey . He also believes that nature has the ample power to chasten and subdue (92-93 ) and that man should not feel betrayed if nature overpowers him because tis her privilege (122 ) to lead from joy to joy (124-125
Tennyson believes that the romising attitude of nature is hidden behind the veil (28 ) of God 's love . His belief that nature is merciless shows in I care for nothing , all shall go (4 ) and I bring to life , I bring to death : The spirit does but mean the breath (6-7 . In fact , the poet shows that God 's declaration of love as the final law of creation made nature shriek against his creed (16
Nature is very powerful and can evoke very different feelings among the greatest of men . God 's love and eternal justice is dealt through it which makes us either revere or hate it . We are part of nature and this is a privilege that should make us appreciate creation...
