Introduction

Socialist Republic of Vietnam , measuring 332 , 642 sq .km of South East Asia , it has a coastline in Southeast Asian Peninsula , Vietnam has China to its north , Loas Cambodia in west , Gulf of Tonkin in south and China sea to its east . The capital of Vietnam is Hanoi and its largest city is Ho Chi Minh City . Northern and western sections of Vietnam have a huge range of mountains upto 8 ,000 ft and has a plenteous plateau known as Central Highlands . These mountain areas have a cultivation of rubber , tea

and coffee . Vietnam has good weather conditions , tropical monsoon climate , flow of river water and plains that provide a scope for comfortable living

People of Vietnam speak Annamese-Muong language who account for more than 85 per cent of population . There are other minority groups which account to 50 groups who live in highlands in Muong , Tai , Hmong , Dao Sedong , Jarai , Bahnar , Rhade and Cham . There is also a huge population of Cambodians near the frontier of Cambodia and at the Mekong river

Vietnam practices Buddhism , Confucianism and also beliefs of Roman Catholicism which are in great practice as religion . Vietnam Government as communist government , discourages a practice of religion , since 1990 Buddhist temples have been encouraged , protestant evangelical churches in minority groups have also been encouraged

Agriculture has been a major source of employment for Vietnam population as cultivation of rice has been the major crop . The Mekong and Red River delta areas have been the richest resources for cultivation of rice crop with the advantage of heavy rainfall and rich alluvial soil apart from a huge network of dams , canals and locks for its perfect irrigation and flood control . Some of other crops of Vietnam include potatoes , corn , sweet potatoes and beans . Coffee , cotton , tea , pepper and sugar cane are some of the cash crops that are produced in Vietnam Fishing and aquaculture are also considered as important industries while timber being a huge resource for commercial chopping of wood since it leads to deforestation , it is considered as a serious problem in Vietnam

Some of the best mineral resources which are available in North of Vietnam produce a large portion of coal with a huge deposit of phosphate , manganese , bauxite , chromate and other crude metal ores . Oil and gas are deposits are southern waters while crude oil is a major export product . In the early 21st century , there is a good industrial development in Vietnam which include food processing , clothing and footwear manufacturing , machine building , steel , cement , fertilizer glass and production . Tire manufacturing also is a major industry in Vietnam . Many of these industries are a joint venture between foreign and Vietnamese local government . Its main trading partners include China , Japan , The United States and Singapore . Tourism industry in Vietnam is quite successful in Vietnam for its unique culture practice of religion as it has also joined WTO in 2006
