Sustaining motivation of employees is an extremely difficult task for management and often involves many facets of the business environment and personal lives of workers . When performance suffers , there is rarely one single reason that an employee is failing to meet management 's standards . It is often a more complex situation that takes a certain degree of analytical thought and time vested in improving the situation . The most important factors to be addressed by a manager in such situations are related to motivation

Factors relating to aptitude , skill level , and comprehension of the performed task are important , but are also readily assessed and remedied . It can easily become apparent if an employee is unable to complete an assignment because of their comprehension . A little time spent with them discussing the assignment , as well as asking honest and direct questions , can reveal a great deal about what they understand and can handle . If they are unable to do the task , they can me moved to a different project or given more training to help their level of comprehension
