ABSTRACT The Treaty of Versailles was a peace treaty drafted after World War I that was signed by the United States , France , and England , known as the Triple Entente , and unwillingly signed by Germany . In the treaty Germany was solely blamed for the cause of the war and was required to make reparations and concessions that could have ruined the country This left Germany feeling alienated , hurt , and angry . Before the treaty was signed , Germany submitted a counter-proposal , suggesting that because Germany was willing to pay reparations , make concessions , and work

toward peace , the amount of reparations and concessions should be lowered so as not to ruin Germany . The Entente rejected the suggestions and the treaty was signed as is .
