Effective communication is strongly based on both , verbal and non-verbal modes of communication . People do find it hard at times while dealing with their loved ones to express their views on any particular arising issue . Effective communication does take place through these modes within and outside the family , these modes help people in answering to someone whether they are answering in favour of something or against People do posses certain skills in expressing their views , not everyone is lucky enough to have those because there are many obstructions that stand in the way of effective communication and the communication takes place effectively when these obstructions are overcome . Communication obstructions come in many forms . They include passive listening , noise and selective listening . These barriers may come from lack of common foundation of experience between the speaker and the listener , failure of the speaker to clearly distinguish between symbols and things they represent , and the speaker may not use concrete words . Obstructions might also be in the form of the lack of ability to tackle situation negative state of mind , strong emotions or even the environmental factors
