The results presented by the research are quite alarming even though parent-to-child violence is not entirely new to us . We are all witnesses to this subtle form of violence everyday . We see parents unknowingly hurting their child because they think of their action as disciplinary . Even though we are given a handful of expositions about the problem , the public , as most of these violence are perpetuated , the public can 't intervene because it is a parent-to-child affair . But the public was only concerned by the parent-to-child violence that it witnesses just to be shocked by researches about domestic parent-to-child violence and its long-term effects on the victim . Violence is never a good way of straightening things and will never produce a positive outcome . It is a very irrational and unnecessary act the oftentimes carry out harmful effects . Being children , they are at a very crucial stage of social and emotional development . During this crucial stage , some unfortunate children are exposed to violence . They are exposed to violence and instilled with effects that may affect their cognitive , emotional , behavioral and social development . Parent-to-child violence doesn 't necessarily mean that a child is being physically hurt . It also addresses the problem of neglect by their parents . Cognitive Effects It has always been proven by research that parent-to-child violence has a large effect o a child 's cognitive development . Attention and memory deficiencies , scores of low IQ , poor visual-motor and language skills are largely affect by how a child is treated by their parents . A child suffering domestic violence most of the time has problems performing academically . Since their development is obstructed , the basic requirements to perform academically are not fulfilled by the child . Children under exposure of violence tend to have low scores on standardized test (University of Iowa . Since the child is not performing well on school , they are given the tag `problem-child ' when actually they are not the source of the problem it is their parents . They tend to be insecure because of their shortcoming to perform well academically in comparison to other children that they either be bullies or very timid among their classmates . Exposure to violence affects much more than academic performance itself . Children may find it very difficult to comprehend rules and expectations that lead them to be unproductive in the school environment and the community . Emotional Effects A child emotional aspect also suffers a great deal of damage due to exposure to violence . This can cause them a very negative...
