Abstract

VMware has been on the cutting edge of virtualization since the release of VMware Workstation

Virtualization itself is a rather broad term that most commonly refers to some sort of abstraction of resources . This introduces the basic concepts of hardware virtualization , defines some early terminology , introduces VMware Server , and gives a look at what life was like before virtualization

The concept of virtualization started as early as 1960s but it was only widely used today . The old days require

software and hardware components in to create virtual machines . But now , virtualization is a different term . A simple example of virtualization process is the creation of hard disk partition . Virtualization can be used for both hardware and software and is very helpful for cost-cutting while using better computer system . One can even use software applications which can be very helpful for computer virtualization

Virtualization is a method that enables installing and running multiple operating systems and their applications on a single hardware platform (Piltzecker , 2008 . This form of abstraction enables the consolidation of diverse environments while allocating the hardware resources as desired between the virtual machines hosting the guest operating systems

Virtualization can be realized with software solutions from VMware Microsoft , or the open source alternative Xen , with all alternatives supporting the installation of Linux operating systems . Some server platforms also offer enhancements to software-based virtualization by providing features such as hardware-based memory protection hardware-based translation between virtual machines and operating systems , and differing levels of privilege over hardware resources

Virtualization provides the ability to create and host multiple machines within one physical machine , thereby allowing the development of complex scenarios with a minimal hardware commitment . It includes the ability to create standard configurations for virtual machines , which can then be essentially cloned and used by others

VMware is among the many applications available today for computer virtualization . It is actually one of the earliest software in this field . VMware can also be used easily by anyone . Some applications may require technical knowledge but VMware is a simple application . One can use VMware or other virtualization software to create his virtual computers

There are a lot of benefits from computer virtualization . The simple partitioning of hard disk proves to be very helpful for individuals in saving disk space and improving the performance of his computer . Aside from this , computer virtualization is also helpful if one wants to have two or more operating systems in one physical computer . This is great news for students or software vendors who frequently work with various operating systems . Not only can a set of notebook or desktop be created with their virtual counterparts but even servers can be created with a computer machine . VMware and other virtualization software are very helpful for this . One would not need many physical computers just to create a network .
