Use of an `F` word in books read by general public
p PROFANITY in PUBLIC TEXTS The United States of American has always prided itself in its governing philosophy that includes freedoms and rights for all people . One of those rights is the freedom of speech and expression . While this right does include the use of profanity , particularly the `F ' word , many individuals do not appreciate the use of that word in public texts However , the use of this word is acceptable for several reasons . First it is guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States . Second , the public can choose what it

does and does not read . Finally , the use of this word can be both artistic and expressive , and it serves a purpose in some texts . Despite some complaints about the `F ' word in public texts , its use should definitely be allowed in books , magazines , and newss
What exactly is the `F ' word ? It originated as a word to describe a sexual act . It has now evolved to include a host of other meanings such as `betrayed ' `in trouble ' and even as an insult or expletive Clearly this word is used frequently in the English language for this variety of reasons . Most people , at some point or another , have said this word in some situations perhaps they have dropped a can of soup on their toe or perhaps they have backed into another car in a crowded parking lot . Several people have used the word to insult an enemy or one who has betrayed him or her , reserving this word for the most serious of offenders . Others may even use the word in the way it originated , to describe sexual activity . If individuals in society use this word , then why should it not be mirrored in text
Public texts , such as books , newss , and magazines , serve to characterize and report the activities of people in our society . An author of a novel may wish to distinguish a character by the use of the `F ' word as a way to reveal his personality to the reader or as a way to compare him to another character . A magazine may wish to report verbatim the words of a celebrity or political figure and , in doing so use those words . Newss may do so as well as part of their pledge of objectivity . Of course these newss may wish to censor their use of this word by using other keyboard characters to fill in the letters after the `F (i .e . F ) depending on the news or magazine 's readership , but generally the public does decide if it wants to read the `F ' word in public texts
This decision represents an important distinction to make in this argument . Reading is interactive . The public decides to pick up newss , magazines , and books and to read them . If they do not care for the content , the readers can move on to another source . Many people argue that television and movies do not allow the `F ' word because of the possibility of children watching and reserve...
