A study in 2006 suggested that vaccines may offer limited protection against a few HPV types that are closely related to HPV 's 16 and 18 , it is clear that other high-risk HPV types can circumvent the vaccines
On the other hand National Cancer Institute (NCI (2002 ) stated that most of the HPV infections do not ultimately lead to cervical cancer Senior investigator , Allan Hildesheim working in the NCI stated that If a woman tests positive for HPV once , that does not mean she is likely to get cervical cancer , if she tests positive repeatedly over a period of years that is more worrisome ' He however stated that though the current studies are initial steps towards a vaccine to prevent cervical cancer , larger studies are essential to confirm its safety and efficacy on healthy young women . Other limitation of the vaccine is the effect of vaccine for what length of time ? And the vaccine does not prevent the HPV-16 infections from progressing to cervical cancer if already present in the body . Pap tests cannot be taken for granted by the women vaccinated with Gardasil , since the vaccine cannot prevent the HPV of types other that 16 and 18
According to Food and Drug Administration (FDA , the vaccine Gardasil was approved for use in females aged 9-26 years . The vaccine was evaluated and approved under FDA 's priority review process in six months
Staff Levine and Harris (2007 ) of Washington post stated that district of Virginia and Maryland may make it mandatory for adolescent girls to get vaccinated .
