The developments in socio-political segments in developing countries have also lead to urban structuring . Basically , the trend has a characteristic in which poor countries tend to have a concentration of economic activities within a location which can support the different aspects of social lifestyle . In poor countries , there are several factors why urbanization happens . These are investments , employment search and trade

One good example of a city is Manila in the Philippines . Basically the urbanization structuring of the city started after the arrival of the Spanish colonizers in the

16th century when they created the walled ' city of Intramuros to become a center for commerce and trade (Gardner , 2004 . The previous developments prior to that only designated small economic functions in trade . But after the colonizers were able to take hold of the city , it became the center of activities and government because of its strategic location . Different structures were erected to cater to the seat of government , thus attracting people from rural areas to settle and establish a living within the locality

Today , Manila hosts about nine million people extended through various outlying cities in the metropolis . Half of the business enterprise of the Philippines is concentrated in the city (MSN , 2007 Because of such condition , Manila is currently having a hard time dispersing the people into other locations where industries have previously been established . Long time illegal settlers provide economic problems in terms of land acquisition , employment , pollution and congestion
