University of California Transfer Personal Statement

When I was 15 years old , I left Korea to go to the U .S . for better educational opportunities . Though I experienced culture shock when I arrived , I challenged myself to make the most out of my new environment by doing well in school , making new friends , and adapting to the new culture . Though everything was foreign to me , I tried to take them all in and enjoy every activity I participated in

After graduating , I traveled to Thailand for a volunteer service . I was able to extend my help , devote my time

, and share my knowledge to Thais For two months , I interacted with local children and elders , living as simply as they did . I tried to learn their values and know more about their attitudes and customs that make them unique as a people as they in turn learn more about me as their teacher and visitor

After this , I traveled to Europe to educate myself about the world and see what else I have not seen from Asia and the U .S . I was able to meet people of various cultural backgrounds and see several beautiful places As the countries I visited were new to me , I had to communicate with the people properly to help me get my way around the cities . It helped that I tried to speak their language as they appreciated my effort to reach out to them in a language that they know
