Introduction
The oil pollution act of 1990 was passed and signed into law by the 101st US congress and president Bush respectively in the year 1990 . Its core goal was to expand efforts aimed at mitigating and preventing oil spills of the United States coast and remove civil liabilities for any spill that occurs . In general , the law requires companies to have plans in place to prevent any possible spills and by extension a plan for containing and cleaning any spill by its vessels or other entities
This paper explores the origins of the particular legislation , its objectives , and the state before and after its coming into law of oil companies and the environment and lastly gives recommendations on what future adjustments should be made
