Unit 4 DB Hiring, Firing, and Discrimination

In my view affirmative action is a remedy to deal with problems such as discrimination against hiring of women , minorities , discriminating against religion and personal beliefs or even sexual orientation According to certain research , Affirmative action ' means the positive measures implemented to increase women and minority representation in the areas of employment (Philosophy , 2001 . I support affirmative action because in my view it helps , most of the time under the influence of force or law , to break the blockage in the minds of the people in the corporate world and they are

able to see the skills and capabilities which these minority groups and women have that can benefit the organization and they can see how they can contribute towards the success of the organization . The proverbial glass ceiling ' effect can be curtailed through affirmative actions and people can pursue their long term goals without facing discrimination

Another aspect that is beneficial to the organization especially in today 's world is the diversity it brings to the workforce in addition to all the benefits to it . Consider for example if an organization hires Asians , Americans and Latin Americans . The amount of diversification and learning capacity of that organization would be immense . The organization needs new ideas and perspectives to work from in to maintain a competitive advantage and by giving a chance to the minorities and women , their view also helps in looking at things in a different way and keeping ahead of competitors

It also consistent with the moral philosophy as anything which benefits the majority is considered moral and in this case , such hiring benefits the minorities and women as it gives them employment and it also benefits the corporation as it enables it to maintain its competitive advantage
