Unethical behavior is committed by medical professionals despite them having been trained right from the medical schools they attend . Medical professionals are expected to have honesty and integrity in their practice . They should win the trust of their patients to efficiently and effectively perform their tasks . They should also

have a strong sense of responsibility such that in offering their care they should overlook their own self interests to cater for the patient first . Patients expect them to be reliable such that they can depend on their expertise in their care provision . Medical professionals should have accountability in the sense that they should explain the outcomes of their care even when it is erroneous . They should also explain their responsibilities so that patients are in the know of what is happening around them . In addition , medical professionals ought to have respect for their patients and should honor their welfare , autonomy and privacy (Randall D . and Gibson A , 1991

Medical professionals commit unethical behavior when they are dishonest , mistreat patients or when they violate patients confidentiality . It is unethical to have romantic relationships with patients or misconduct with their patients while they are involved with the primary course of such patients care . However , some professionals fall prey of this misconduct when they let their personal interests overcome the interests of their patients

Medical professionals could also perform unethical behavior when they discuss especially with patients about their colleagues professional competence , qualifications and knowledge . This they may do to win the patient . Some may argue without evidence that their colleagues do not offer competent care to patients or that they mistreat patients . Some medical professionals are impatient with their patients and could use offensive language , remarks or gestures . This kind of behavior is unethical and they should treat patients with integrity and respect They should also not use deceptive measures or coercive acts to win or retain patients (Cohen R , 2001

Medical professionals may practice unethical behavior for fear of loss of credibility . Instead of advising patients to seek further consultation from specialists they may offer incompetent care especially when they are practicing their services on private basis . Medical professionals take an oath to save lives which is their main objective A doctor for instance should not walk away from a patient due to a disagreement with other personnel 's like a nurse . Personal differences should not make a doctor negate his main role of saving a patients life . Greed , fear and envy are some of the reasons that may trigger unethical behavior among medical professionals . Desire to be the best practitioner in the field would precipitate unethical behavior .
