What is Truth : Nietzsche 's Approach In this I am going to investigate the understanding of Truth by Friedrich Nietzsche . I decided to divide the given passage into three parts and discuss each of the parts on its own . In the first part I shall try to explain Nietzsche 's idea of truth as a metaphor . In the second part I shall illustrate the view of truth as metaphor with some analogies from other fields of human relations . In the third part I will attempt to prove that Nietzsche considered truth as mental

and social convention , of which people have forgotten that it is a convention and which is now absolutized , although there are now real foundations for such absolutization . At the conclusion I will try to prove that Nietzsche advocated a subjective concept of truth , that should be rather called subjective than utilitarian
Part I . Truth as metaphor , metonymy , and anthropomorphism
Nietzsche begins his reasoning in On Truth and Lies in a Nonmoral Sense ' from a cosmic view of knowledge as an invention of a tiny animal called man ' which occasionally came to being on a small planet near a negligible star - one among billions .
