Truman and MacArthur

President Truman thought the Korean War proved the viability of the United Nations . General MacArthur on the other hand was efficient but he ignored the intellect of the Red Army of the Chinese build up across the b of North Korea into China . President Truman was aware of this fact and the fact that General MacArthur did have an ego but the move of landing of the U .S Marines on Inchon was frankly a calculated risk President Truman decided to fly to Wake Island to meet General MacArthur for the first time

The most important question that Truman asked MacArthur was if he thought China would enter the war . The general being confident replied that the Chinese would not enter the war and it would be over by the end of the year . MacArthur then ed American troops to press on to the Yalu River in desperate attempts to end the war . MacArthur demanded authority to bomb Chinese bases north of the Yalu in China itself . But fearing a widening of the war and possible entry of the Soviet Union , Truman refused . Instead , they ed him to retreat Truman administration officials then told MacArthur that the United States had discarded the idea of reunifying Korea .
