Truman and the Atomic Bomb When President Harry Truman made the call to drop two atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki , the world was forever changed . After centuries or perpetual war , the world saw a dramatic decrease in global military actions . The reason for this was obvious : the end result of war actions may possibly be The official reason that has been given in regards to the decision to dropping the atomic bombs on Japan was to end the wall immediately and avoid the prolonged invasion of Japan with 500 ,000 troops

and avoiding a longer and brutal war . In time , some critics have stated that the war could have been ended without using the atomic bomb and the reason it was dropped was to send a message to Stalin that the United States was the dominant power in the world . This is a fairly strong allegation as it accuses a United States President of deliberately murdering hundreds of thousands of people strictly for propaganda purposes . It is also a statement of opinion as opposed to a statement of fact an allegation that is based on an anti-American sentiment as opposed to one based on the facts
In to understand the theories that went into the decision to drop the atomic bomb , one needs to examine the events that had occurred prior to the use of the atomic bombs . In other words , in to understand whether or not the decision was used to drop the bomb was a military one in regards to WWII or whether it was a warning prior to the onset of the Cold War , one needs to understand what the United States was facing with an enemy in the form of Imperial Japan

Furthermore , an argument can be made that Japan was promoting genocide campaigns throughout the Asian world Japan had also purposely starved thousands of American and Filipinos in the Bataan Death March (This is to say nothing of the forced homosexual rapes Americans and Filipinos suffered during the Death March ) Imperial Japan under Tojo was an out of control imperial power as evil as the Nazi regime . Furthermore , despite the massive destruction of Japan under allied carpet bombing ' no surrender was forthcoming
