TRIFLES

The play Trifles ' was written in 1916 by Susan Glaspell . She adapted the murder trial of a farmer and the imprisonment of his wife into a play . It gave meaningful insights into the lives of rural , poverty stricken and abused women . Mrs . Wright , a farmer 's wife had been driven to the edge by her anti-social husband and their dead marriage Isolated from her loved ones , stripped away from her love for life , she kills her husband . When the town police investigate the house , they find no evidence or motive behind

the murder . However , her female neighbors who accompany the police solve the mystery on their own . The first clue for the women was Mrs . Wright leted work . The second example of Mrs . Wright 's anger was shown through an almost perfect quilting . The most conclusive evidence was the dead bird and the birdcage . These trivial things proved to them that Mrs . Peter knew that they all go through the same things - it 's all just a different kind of the same thing . It was evident from these half completed tasks that something immense had happened and had driven her to commit a grave act

Another trifling matter was the beautiful quilt Mrs . Peter found with a botch at the last bit of sewing . She was convinced that the quilt looked as if she didn 't know what she was about ' while the other patches appeared nice and even . The two women quickly undid the botch in spite of knowing that they shouldn 't touch things . Mrs . Peter was a woman married to the law ' but even she felt compelled to help Mrs Wright . It appears as if both women had gone through the same feelings of discrimination and inequality and felt solidarity with Mrs . Wright

The last piece of the puzzle was an empty bird cage with the hinge broken open very roughly . It was Mrs . Wright 's dead canary inside with its neck wringed . Mrs . Peter knew exactly how it felt to lose a loved pet and even more if it was killed barbarically by another person . She...
