How do the approaches of the men investigating the death differ from the women 's approach ? What do these differences reveal about them In the men 's version of the murder investigation their only interest is in looking for information about the why of the murder . They do not focus on the lives of both the murder victim and the only suspect they can find . It seems as if they look for only one clue , the motive , as to why Mrs . Wright would kill her husband . The women , however , look at the people

involved . They learn about Mrs . Wright from the memories of Mrs Hale and they learn about Mr . Wright from the trifles they find in the kitchen , including the allusive motive for the murder
One would hope the differences were more than just gender based , but from the beginning of the play , the women , including the suspect , are considered to less intelligent and worried about minor problems with little regard for the bigger picture . The men feel that only they can find the reason for the murder , and they look in places where men would be , such as a living room , bed room , or barn . However , the suspect is a woman and because the men believe the kitchen is only for a woman 's work , they do not understand that this area was Mrs .
